The association between obesity and migraine and possible mechanisms of action: an integrative literature review

IntroductionObesity is a multifactorial disease and defined by the excessive accumulation of adipose tissue that can cause harm to human health. The presence obesity an important risk factor for migraine chronification. However, not much known about link between two diseases. MethodsIn this study, integrative literature review was conducted better understand mechanisms interaction obesity. Therefore, search PubMed Virtual Health Library (VHL) performed with following keywords: enxaqueca e obesidade; obesidade inflamação; neuropeptídeos; obesity; inflammation; neuropeptides. ResultsThe identified 22 articles. After reading analyzing articles, three thematic categories emerged: 1) Obesity as Aggravating Factor Migraine 2) Mechanisms Studied 3) Effect Weight Loss on Symptoms. ConclusionsThe chronic low-grade inflammation associated predisposition abnormal secretion adipokines, dysregulation sympathetic nervous system, hypothalamic dysfunction have been suggested be main shared both
